Designing an Email Welcome Series for a Small Boutique Using Omnisend

Digital Marketing /Email marketing/

Email marketing with Omnisend, an ecommerce email marking and SMS platform, has added an additional $5,882.00 in revenue for the Baltimore boutique, Something Else. I built a custom digital marketing plan for the boutique that included an automated email welcome series. An email welcome series is a sequence of emails, automatically sent to individuals after they sign up for your email list and is great way to engage with new subscribers who are interested in your brand.

This Email Welcome Series was part of the digital marketing plan for Something Else, created to on-ramp the customer journey from visitor to super-fan by doing three things

  1. Send a thank you email after a visitor sign- ups

  2. Introduce the brand and the experience offered

  3. Show appreciation with a discount code

I built this series using Omnisend, a ecommerce email marking and SMS platform. It easily integrated with Shopify which was a deciding factor in my choice for this boutique.

Clarity

I used Milanote to build out the informational architecture of the emails and organize content. Then, I used Omnisend’s email automation tool to build out the flow of emails and add content.

What you need to know to build your email welcome series workflow with Omnisend

  • Trigger: A trigger indicates what action starts a chain of events. In this case a sign up acts a trigger prompting an email series to send.

  • Delay - A delay indicates how much time passes between actions. We wait for 1 min to send a sign-up conformation. After that we delay for 1 day before sending another email. A few days later an expiring offer reminder email is sent.

  • Message: The message is the content you want to be sent. In this case an email series designed using an Omnisend template. It contains a brief introduction that includes a discount, a second email to showcase brand personality and content, and a third final email containing a friendly final reminder about the discounts upcoming expiration.

There are more in-depth features and tools but knowing these three basics will give you a strong foundation in building your own email welcome series workflow.

Visual Design

I tweaked the design of the email as we gained more clarity around the audience and their preferences. I used the brand colors as accents rather than bold sections. This made the email feel lighter with the addition of more white space and added a level of sophistication in its simplicity.
